Sing out Sutton is a fun, friendly and supportive group who believe in the power of singing to make yourself and others feel better. We run regular rehearsals throughout the year, as well as organising and participating in gigs to share the joy of singing with our wider community. We organise local workshops to promote the wellbeing benefits of singing. We are also a very sociable bunch with many trips to the pub, quizzes and dances throughout the year.
Our founder members have been singing together since 2016, having originally been a crucial part of a research project in collaboration with Tenovus Cancer Care, The Royal Marsden and the Royal College of Music Centre for Performance Science which investigated the wellbeing benefits of singing for people affected by cancer. Vicki helped coordinate the project and noticed that although many people who joined the choir had some connection to cancer which brought them to that first rehearsal, what kept them coming back every week were the wellbeing benefits that extended into other areas of their lives. It was then that she decided to launch Sing out Sutton so that singing could reach and benefit even more people.
Our choirs are accessible, inclusive and open to all. Our mission is to boost wellbeing, joy and community spirit through the power of singing. We welcome everyone who wants to improve their wellbeing, make friends and learn a new skill, regardless of whether you feel you can sing or not! There’s no need to read music, no auditions and no solos. Just turn up and give it a go.
Over the years singing together, we’ve loved performing Elvis, Dolly Parton, Gloria Gaynor, Adele, Lily Allen and anything else we consider a ‘classic’. We also have the incredible ability to make the sun come out whenever we sing Mr Blue Sky!
